Can your little 4 banger push those meats? You stall when it gets stuck in mud or on rocks?

Stalled it once or twice mudding, this thing is amazing in the mud. I did roast the clutch pretty good last weekend mudding (2wd half clutch/ half throttle for too long). It has 116K miles on it plus almost a year with these 38s. I'd say it faired well. It probably has a couple thousand miles left on it.

Anybody have a recommendation on a new clutch? I thought Centerforce had one, but its not on their website. I found a Exedy clutch though.

CenterForce at least used to make clutches for the 2.6, more than one selection, as I recall.

I had good luck with a basic brand called Luk. I always had the transmission fail before a clutch did.

You might be able to turn those tires at sea level, but you would not be able to get up the highway in the mountain west, let alone off-road. 33s cause significant stalling at elevation with stock gearing.(terrible with a 5spd) To wheel with 39s and a 4cyl youll need a double case for sure and new diffs and auto trans to handle the stress. Fun experiment, but for significant wheeling 39s require costly upgrades on any 4x4.

Lloyd, good advice for those of us out west, but he's in FL. Doubtful he'll hit 1000' within 500 miles...

Doesn't look like an experiment, either. He's been driving it for quite a while on those tires, and for what he uses it for, it looks like it works pretty well. Except the clutch.

I really could have sworn they made a "dual force" or whatever they call it for the 2.6. I wonder if there's one left anywhere, as it sounds like this is the application need for one.

One solution is to get a flywheel, disk and pressure plate from a 88-89 Starion. It has more clamping force and more surface area. The extra surface area helps reduce temps when your slipping it ( more surface area, less heat absorbed per sg in, more area to dissipate heat).

It's a little stiffer, but not too bad.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just thought I'd chime in on the centerforce clutch. I bought my stage II from amazon end of december 2010 for $210 with free super saving shipping. Centerforce #CFT581780 is what you would be looking for.Amazon now shows it at $320 shipping. Only Drawback was it took near a month to receive it. But its hard to beat their price since most places charge shipping. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VU27QY
I'm sure they still have the dual force clutch somewhere too, I saw it when i was shopping in December. The stage II has excellent clamping force with my 31s. I have tried running it up hill in second slowly to get it to slip, but it kills the engine before it spins.

Thanks for the input. I found the centerforce clutch listed under the montero instead of a dodge raider. The clutch wasn't slipping till last weekend when I was driving it like a tard. If I can find a centerforce II for cheap I'll get it, otherwise it will get a exedy oem for $130.

The tires have been working great so far, the clutch was my stupidity rather than the tires. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
