MAYBE.... Someone took an OEM mitsu switch, and broke the guts out of it, and mounted some aftermarket switch inside the orig mitsu switch? That way it would be super clean?

I have consulted the manual to no avail.

There is no section for dash/interior, only electronics and i have checked every page in elect. section with no explanation of any of the switches. The reason I thought it was stock is that the previous owners were an older couple who just used this on weekend family trips and when I asked them about it they had no idea.

Whoops, missed that first quote earlier

I agree with the opinions above -- time to pop the switch out of the dash and trace the wires.

Yep I'll trace some wires, however I'm still confused about what switch was originally in that location, since the gate lock is manual.. Who else has an 84??!

That what it looks like to me, they took a Mitsu OEM blank, used a dremel to cut the hole for the switch. Regarding what switch goes there, it's possible there was just a blank there from the factory. Depending on the model you have, not all the dash switch area have switches in them.

Counting you, I think there are three that have come through these ranks.

Also, we all have blanks that are simply covererd and would have held switches for options the US never saw.

That was a special switch only used for the very rare super encabulator option. Do not throw the switch on wet pavement, as the truck may behave differently than you are used to, thus endangering life and property. Only use super encabulator mode as described in the owner's manual supplement...

Betcha there used to be fawg laghts on it...

OK, my curiosity was piqued, so I downloaded the '84 FSM and did some looking myself and I came across the description of the rear heater, which has a single push button switch which combines heater fan switch and warm water flow control operation. The manual describes it as ON-OFF operation. The only illustration I could find was on page 24-35 of the manual.

Is it possible this might be your mystery switch? After all, a system that has a secret box and secret box packing ought to have a mystery switch, right?

That is a nice looking and fit aftermerket switch. I bet its been on their awhile, you probably could not find those nice fitting switches today.
I have a switch just like that it operates my aftermarket lights on my rear bumper. That switch used to go to something thats no longer on the vehicle.

thanks for all the responses guys, the switch lights up when you activate it and the headlights are on, so I'm pretty sure it used to go to some lights. I guess I'm all wired up if I wanted to get some hella's
