Mmmm... Beefy! New front brakes! Thanks to some lucky salvage from dannytuned last year, I finally got to hold my head above the academic waters long enough to throw these bad boys on: ![[Linked Image]](http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs574.snc3/31324_436555848967_766838967_5757687_5585790_n.jpg) Passenger side caliper assembly. ![[Linked Image]](http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs594.snc3/31324_436555858967_766838967_5757689_760200_n.jpg) Driver side caliper assembly. ![[Linked Image]](http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs594.snc3/31324_436555868967_766838967_5757690_4723953_n.jpg) This is roughly the amount of backing plate that had to be sheared off to accommodate the larger caliper assemblies. Tin snips worked just fine, but in a perfect world, I'd rather have taken them off to trim them. Just for the background, these are the brake calipers off of dannytuned's old 2001 Montero Sport front end. ![[Linked Image]](http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs031.snc1/3216_98213218967_766838967_2640649_5168213_n.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs031.snc1/3216_98213223967_766838967_2640650_5636473_n.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs031.snc1/3216_98213228967_766838967_2640651_269595_n.jpg) 2hrs to swap on a muggy hot day in the direct sun. They were a little soft on the first test drive, but a few stomps later they had settled in just fine. I'm guessing they'll get even better with a little more time. This is the first time I've driven the truck since early March. It feels good to get some wrenching time in. It's been almost a year since I've done anything of value on this truck. ![[Linked Image]](http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs534.ash1/31324_436555878967_766838967_5757691_800307_n.jpg) -DougB

Looks great to me. I'm normally not a big fan of black rims, but it works very well on your rig. Wish i could run a 2door but 3 young sons dictates a 4door. Nice !

I see you moved. Pretty close to Redbird SRA, too.

Did you swap the brake hoses, too? Have you had the vented rotors before? I'm getting ready for this swap and front wheel bearing repack at the same time, and I was considering not using the shields.

He put on the rotors a few year ago now...
Is this the same as doing a Gen II rotor swap?

Dang, I think those Disc Brake Australia rotors went on in aught three if not earlier; it was a fiasco. It's almost embarrassing to see how tiny they look as compared to the rest of the truck nowadays, but they've held up well. Just had them resurfaced last year.
I would not run without the brake backing as it does provide some protection for your axle seals... especially if you put a nice bead of silicone or even a thick dab of grease around the inside before reinstalling them.
Good mod for the weekend. Easy peasy Japanesey.

Here's my post on this swap Russell and do keep the shields. Gen 1 to Gen 2 brake upgradeRay, why don't you add these to your tech post?
